Presidential Cup VII Recap - Feb 15th, 2022

Q102’s Presidential Cup VII a Dynamic Discs 5k/10k Ace Challenge Event Recap

This was the second stop on the DGM’s Blast Off Tour. It was the 1st PDGA sanctioned B Tier as well. This year’s Presidential Cup was again a Dynamic Discs 5K/10k Ace Challenge. This meant that everyone of the 97 players has an opportunity in the 2nd round to hit an Ace on hole 20 for big money. Ten Thousand for an ace with a DD disc and Five thousand for any other brand. Despite the packed out venue, the big money was safe as mother natures cold and windy conditions made it pretty tough. It was still exciting getting the opportunity to try.

A special thanks to Q102 for being our title sponsor again this year. They also gave us two gift bags for the raffle that had two pair of Korn tickets and other items. Roy Crouch also needs to be praised for hooking us up with paint and flags allowing us to mark the OB’s, Drop Zones, and Mandatories. We appreciate Brian Kisling also for helping set up the morning of and made chile. A big thanks to Andres Flores for setting out all the DZ and Mando signs. To my mom thank you for making the Posole. Thanks to Team Monkey for working both on the front lines and behind the scenes. You all make it look easy. As always, a big shout out to Scott Kisling for always improving on the course, and welcoming us all each year!

The cold air was made worse by the wind on Saturday. The temperature never reached above freezing. I believe 30 degrees was the high. Despite the conditions there were still some great scores shot by the 10 divisions that made up the event.

In the 15 player Rec Division, it was Ethan Harting who got off to the early and big 4 stroke lead over Gregg Cass and Eli Sheafer. In what proved to be the hot round in the division, Bryan Tieke’s 59 still fell three short of Ethan’s two round total. Cameron Banks was only two off Bryan taking 3rd.

There was only one participant in the Intermediate Women’s division. Madison Feedback shot an 85 & a 77. Great improvement in that second round!

14 players competed in the Intermediate division. The top 3 players actually shot 60, 62, and 63 in the opposite order of how they finished. Davis finished 3rd despite his 2 stroke lead going into round 2. Michael Corey’s Consistent pair of 62’s took second and Jacob Winn’s 59 second round was the key to his two stroke victory.

There were 4 Am Masters 60+ players. Michael McBee had a 3 stroke lead on John Parsons, 5 on Brad Hilton, and 6 on Roger Reid. Roger played solid the last round and took second shooting a 65. Michael held on to 1st.

Julie Crouch was the only one in the Am Master 40+ Women’s division. She shot two consistent rounds of 72 & 73.

There were 9 players in the Am Master 40+ division. It was a very close first round with a tie between Seth Hamilton and Mark Vanderhoef. Only one stroke behind them was Ray Presnell and one off him was Charles Rector. Seth Hamilton again was able to best Ray by one in the second round winning by two. Charles and Mark finished 3rd and 4th.

In the huge Advanced Field of 28, Alec Knopf and Jon McCain shot the low scores in opposite rounds. It was Alec’s 58 that was two better than Jon’s 60 that gave him the 2 stroke victory. Tyler Sisco and William Rea finished up 3rd and 4th. this was a tight scoring battle at the top.

There were 5 in the Pro Masters field. Dasun Keylor and Bryan Johnson battled closely to the end. Dasun was able to get Bryan by 1 stroke in each round for the two stroke victory.

There was only one lady in the Pro Women’s division. Brandy Monnahan shot a 74 followed up by a 65. Great 2nd Round!

In the Open division there were 19 players. This was a very tight battle for the top 3 players. Loren Lewis’s 52 hot first round put him in first after round 1. It was Dallas Wrinkle’s 52 and Bradley Brown’s hot round of 51 (shared with Allen Heston) who kept the battle close:
1st Loren Lewis -15
2nd Dallas Wrinkle -14
3rd Bradley Brown -13
4th Braden Denmark -9
5th Tie Allen Heston -6
5th Tie Caleb Hawley -6
