Lucky 13 Wrap Up - Mar 15th, 2021

13 years of the Lucky 13 are now all in the books. 99 Players braved the weather knowing it was going to be a swampy nasty mess for the Elephant & Castles 13th Annual Lucky 13. Unfortunately our local meteorologists were right about the forecast. It was raining when we all started at 9:00, and it continued through the first round. There was a little wind as well, but nothing like the second round. The rain stopped completely before the second round, but the wind picked up at the same time. Rain, wind, mud, water and more water equaled very tough conditions.

There were eleven divisions represented this year. We were excited to have seven women and one junior in the field. Thankfully the 20 hole lay out flowed rather well despite the rough conditions. As always OB’s are what make this wide open course such a challenge. There were two CTP holes sponsored by Innova and Dynamic Discs. Dillon Clinkanbeard won DD’s and Chris Eads one Innova’s. Congrats guys.

The 24 player Open division was a very tight race to the end result in a sudden death tie break between Dasun Keyler and Micah Funderburgh. Their -15’s were two better than David Savage and Chris Eads. In the playoff, Micah parked the hole to take the win with a -15.

The Open women had two players Andrea Eads and Brandy Monnahan. Andrea shot 920 rated golf for the day smashing the course.

The Advanced men had 11 players, and was where the best score of the tournament came from. Andrew Boone, a 969 rated player annihilated his field shooting -18 for the tournament. This score would have one Open by three strokes. Great job, and hope to see you in Open soon. Noah shot a very respectable -7 that was good for 2nd place.

Mary Abbott and Esmeralda Dodson competed in the Advanced Women division. The first round was very close, with Esmeralda up by only a stick. She turned it on in the second round shooting a 66 pulling away and taking the win.

There were 9 players in the Am 40 division. Ray Presnell, (who could have played MA 50+) made a late decision to jump to this division. This was a great choice as he killed it shooting a -3 for the day besting brothers Charles & Toby Rector who tied for second with a +9.

Candie Luster was the loan lady in Am 40. We hope to find you some competition at the next one!

There were 5 players in Am 50+. I want to point out that two of our Tour Sponsors were in this division. Much thanks to Doug Bowen (Elephant & Castle Fine Arms) and Jeff Ford (Patriots Gold & Silver). John Parsons (Co TD of the Marshall Open) won the division shooting +4 which was 2 better than Jeff.

Seventeen players made up the Intermediate field. There were only 2 players in the division shooting under par. Michael Cory fought back from the second card shooting a 54 to leap card several players. Although it was a great come back, it wasn’t quite good enough to catch Tyler Klinglehoefer’s -8 victory.

The largest field was again the Recreational Division with 25. It’s amazing to see how many new players there are. Our sport keeps growing and it’s awesome! Nevada McAlpin shot a very impressive -4 winning with ease. Rodney Gemme was 2nd with a +7.

There were two in the Rec Women field. Whitney Marcum and Julie (She-Ra) Crouch finished strong. Whitney who, is pregnant was able to battle through to the end and take the win.

There was only one Junior registered. This was only Wyatt Sorrell’s 2nd event, if I’m not mistaken. I am sure he is waiting for a good weather event.

Shout out to the Luster’s on winning the custom Monkey Trap basket.

On behalf of the Republic Parks & Recreation, Thank You all for playing, and Congratulations to all the players who cashed. There are plenty more events coming up soon, so don’t wait to register.

Until next time, Aces and Deuces to you all!
